Specialist Therapies

Integrating the mind, body, and environment

We recognise that every individual’s path to healing is unique.

In addition to traditional therapy, we offer a range of specialist therapeutic approaches that integrate the mind, body, and environment – providing additional pathways for insight, regulation, and growth.

Each therapy is delivered by trained professionals within our calm, nature-inspired setting, allowing clients to explore new ways of connecting, healing, and thriving.

EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR is one of the most significant breakthroughs in trauma treatment, backed by more than 25 years of rigorous clinical research. It helps people reprocess distressing memories and experiences so they can move forward with greater calm and resilience.

EMDR works on the principle that trauma and emotional pain are stored in the body, just like physical pain.
By activating the body’s natural trauma-processing systems, EMDR allows the brain to “unlock” and release stored distress — reducing the emotional intensity linked to past events.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation to help clients distance themselves from distressing memories and reframe them without the same emotional charge.

Commonly used for:

  • PTSD and trauma

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Phobias

  • Grief and loss

  • Disturbing memories or intrusive thoughts

Animal-Assisted Therapy

Working with animals in therapy can be profoundly grounding.

Animals offer non-judgemental companionship and help clients connect to emotions, behaviours and relationships in ways that words sometimes can’t.

At 4Thought Psychology, we are privileged to work alongside our therapy rabbits — Benjamin and Snookums — who bring comfort, curiosity, and calm to our practice.

For many clients, engaging with animals helps reduce anxiety, increase openness, and deepen trust during sessions.

Benefits include:

  • Emotional regulation and calming

  • Enhanced social and relational awareness

  • Reduced anxiety and tension

  • Improved communication and empathy

Play Therapy

Children often communicate their experiences through play rather than words.

Play therapy provides a safe, creative environment where children can explore emotions, relationships, and challenges through toys, art, and movement.

Our practice is uniquely designed to support this process.
Inside, children have access to a wide range of toys, crafts, and games.
Outdoors, our gardens, basketball court, trampoline, and bunny inclosure give children space to relax, explore, and connect naturally.

Play therapy helps children:

  • Build confidence and emotional vocabulary

  • Develop problem-solving and social skills

  • Process trauma, grief, or family change

  • Strengthen parent–child relationships

Yoga & Movement Therapy

Yoga therapy draws on ancient wisdom and modern psychology to support mental, physical, and emotional health.

It integrates movement, mindfulness, and breathwork to help regulate the nervous system and promote self-awareness.

People may seek yoga therapy to manage:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Sleep difficulties or fatigue

  • Chronic pain and tension

  • Stress or trauma recovery

The goal is to restore connection between body and mind — creating balance, strength, and calm.

We’re proud to collaborate with Louise Godfrey of Sri Yoga, who offers individual sessions, group classes, and immersive workshops to complement your psychological care.
