How we can help

The pages in this section give a more detailed description of some of the techniques used by our therapists to help overcome conditions, illness, or states of mind. Please click the links below for more information.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR):

EMDR helps people work through and process disturbing thoughts, feelings and memories. It is commonly used in the treatment of Panic Attacks, Post Traumatic Stress and Phobias.  It is the most significant breakthrough in the treatment of anxiety related problems.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

It is a way of talking about: (1) how you think about yourself, the world and other people, and (2) how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings. CBT can help you to change how you think (Cognitive) and what you do (Behaviour). CBT can help you to make sense of overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller parts. This makes it easier to see how they are connected and how they affect you. CBT therapeutic techniques include: self-awareness, goal setting, relaxation training, guided imagery, focused breathing, behavioural rehearsal & modelling, adaptive self-talk.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

EFT is a form of alternative psychotherapy, that purports to manipulate the body's energy fields by tapping on acupuncture points while a specific traumatic memory is focused on, in order to alleviate a psychological problem.

The theory of EFT is that negative emotions can cause disturbances in the body's energy field. EFT theory derives from similar principles behind those of acupuncture.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment Therapy is a powerful new psychotherapy based on cutting-edge research into how the human mind works. It has been clinically proven to be successful in a wide range of psychological problems. This is a very active therapy. It is not one of those therapies where we just talk about your problems. It is a therapy in which you actively learn new skills to improve your quality of life.
Animal Assisted Therapy

Means including animals in therapeutic work with clients. Animals promote human well-being in many ways, so with the incorporation of animals in the therapeutic process clients are better able to develop their social skills; gain understanding regarding their peer and family dynamics; strengthen their attachments; understand and therefore improve their behaviour; regulate their mood; and manage their anxiety.
Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
Hypnosis

A natural, state of intense, deep relaxation and concentration, similar to the relaxed state that we experience between waking and sleeping. The person is not asleep or unconscious, but fully aware of sensations and surroundings. They are however much more receptive to therapeutic suggestions than they would be normally. Hypnosis is one of the most powerful methods for mental and physical relaxation, anxiety and stress control.
Cognitive assessments

assessments assist parents and teachers in better understanding a child/adolescent's intellectual abilities. An in-depth understanding allows parents and teachers to better help a child/adolescent who may be struggling academically and/or socially.
Psychological testing

Cognitive assessments assist parents and teachers in better understanding a child/adolescent's intellectual abilities.
